Workplace Supervisors

Its your Workplace and safety is your priority

You are responsible for working with the Crane Users to plan the work, ensuring the Workplace remains safe at all times while getting the job done.

You work closely with the Crane Users and Contractors to plan operations in the Workplace, ensuring all activities are completed safely. As cranes can be working on the site you understand:
  • You need to allow for the requirements of cranes to access and leave the the site
  • You have identified where the hazard points are in your workplace such as:

  1. Soft ground, areas of recent land full, suspended structures that the crane can not go near.
    bridges, car parks, basements
  2. Underground services
power, water, waste water, storm water, septic tanks, drains, sump holes, fibre optic cables
  3. Power lines and electrical sources
  4. Traffic
    people, vehicles and the public
  5. Overhead hazards
pipes, acid pipes, power, microwave transmissions, airports and glide paths
  6. Pinch points
    crane slew areas, load path
  7. Simultaneous activities

  • You have a requirement to check competencies before work commences
You may also have a requirement for Lift Plans/Task Analysis or Site Specific Safety Plans
  • You are aware of the weather and the issues it can present with cranes.
    Wind, Lightning, Sun Strike, Fog
  • You have arranged a flat level area for the crane to set up to complete the work.

Workplace supervisors, riggers, dogman and everyone who works around cranes must obey all warning signs and have regard for their own safety and the safety of others. The person in charge must have a clear understanding of the work to be done, consider all dangers at the site, and develop a plan to do the job safely explain the plan to all concerned.
Since more and larger cranes are being used on today’s major construction sites it is increasingly necessary that all site personnel involved or in charge of crane and lifting operations be trained in the basic principles of crane safety.
