Crane Roles that Make it Safe

The safe operation of cranes requires multiple parties in complex relationships to work together to facilitate a lift. In simple terms you have the following roles that maybe from the same or different companies (PCBU):
  • Crane User / Customer
  • Crane Controller / Owner
  • Crane Operator
  • Dogman / Rigger
Depending on the site or lift you may also have:
  • Lift Coordinator
  • Lift Supervisor
  • Lift Engineer or similarly competent person         
  • Spotter(s)
And in the time leading up to the lift the following parties may influence the decisions and safety of the lift.
  • PCBU’s, Officers and Workers.
  • Crane Manufacturers
  • Crane Certifying Bodies
  • Rigging Manufacturers
  • Rigging Certifying Bodies
  • Load Manufacturers
  • Certified Practicing Engineers
  • Training Bodies
